It is a pleasure to express our sincere welcome on behalf of the National Lutheran Church of Guatemala, who owns this property since the 1950's; according to the Colonial City of Antigua regulations, our property is considered a National Monument and a Natural Reserve. Please share with us, that which the grace and mercy of our God has given us, and which the efforts of our Church Council, dedicated Staff and Donnors have made possible. Nury de Milian, Director.

How the Lutheran Church started in Guatemala? On November 13, 1945, Rev. Harry Smith of Brownsville, Texas received a letter from Alfredo Vásquez, requesting tracts and materials. He responded and, it was a pleasant surprise when on Dec. 30, he received another letter from Vásquez, indicating that the new Lutheran Church had already started in Zacapa! During 1946 and 1947 Rev. Bernard Pankow made four trips to Guatemala and on August 18, 1947, in the Chapel of Zacapa, he installed Robert Gussick as Pastor of the Lutheran Church in Zacapa. Rev. Gussick had the vision to buy some properties for the growing church; one of them was the Lutheran Center. The Center first served as home of the “Christ the Great Physician” Lutheran Church and the Santa Rosa Hospital. Today, the grounds include the Retreat Center, the CLET offices and library; a missionaries residence serving with Lutheran Bible Translators; and “La Resurrección” mission church.
